11/09/09 update

The new lettuce has already sprouted......and in the upper left corner, you'll see the Romaine transplants are doing well.
The cucumbers have about quadrupled in size....holy schmoly. There are three this size and a bunch of blossoms and little cucs.
The cherry Tomato plant has a bunch of little green tomatoes on it.
I am starting to try and train the squash to grow up a trellis. We'll see how that works out. I'm not sure these squash are going to do well now that it is getting cold.
My mystery peppers are starting to turn red. I'll pick them when they are all red. If they do not sprout any new blossoms, I'm going to pull this plant out and put in more tomatoes.
The cucumber leaves are doing better, but still look like this. I've been spraying them with Organicide for a couple weeks now. I'll just keep bathing them in that...hopefully they will come back. Any suggestions or info is welcomed!!!
More next week.

11/01/09 update

Well, I'm six weeks into this adventure and it is so fun. I am a bit concerned because the leaves on my green beans have died and now the problems seems to be spreading to my peas in the square next door. Something is also going on with my cucumber leaves.

Still have lots of lettuce and I planted 8 more heads of Romain from transplants, 8 more from seed and 4 more of a different green leaf.
There are tons of little squash on the plant. I would like to begin training it up a trellis, but they all appear to be growing at the base of the plant.....we'll see.

And, finally, I have baby cucumbers. So stinkin' cute!!! There are at least 6-8 of them that I have seen so far and TONS of new blossoms. It's gonna be pickle time soon.

My First Salad (from my garden)

It's official.....the lettuce is ready to start making salads. I snipped the outer leaves of my leaf, romaine, bibb, and iceberg lettuces this morning and will be having a great salad for dinner.

I should have some tomatoes ready soon and cucumbers soon after that. But, for now, lettuce is about all I eat in my salads anyway. Yummo!!!

10/25/09 Update

Overall of the 5x2 box....it's doing pretty good. I'll be planting another broccoli in the empty box soon.
Overall of the 4x4 box. I'll be planting more lettuce in the empty boxes tomorrow. Super salads comin' my way.
I'm not sure what's up with my green bean plants....the leaves are dying, but the climbers are kicking butt. I trimmed all of the dead leaves and am spraying them down with organic pest control tonight....hopefully, this will get rid of the problem.

Yummy tomatoes....starting to ripen up. I have a feeling these will barely turn red before they are snatched off the vine. I bought another tomato plant this weekend because I'm not sure I'll be able to keep them around with my tomato-eatin' boys.

Peas! I have a number of flowers and three little pea pods. They are hard to see in the picture, but there is a pea pod about 2" long right in the middle.
The cucumbers really took off this week. They are looking great.
Future cucumbers.......yeah!
I have lots of little squashes.
Close up of little squash.
They little squash are so cute.....only a few more weeks before we're eatin' squash.

I'm beggin dear hubby to build me another box. I really want more tomatoes and some herbs. More lettuce would be great too. We'll see. :)

10/18/09 Update

I can't get the pix to turn the right way...not sure why. Sorry!

The peppers are growing really well and I'm told they may be gypsy peppers. I tried one over the weekend...it was OK. I think I'll wait to see if they turn red.

The lettuce is growing like crazy as are the cucumbers and squash. I have a bunch of little sqashes and the cucumbers have developed climbers and are latching onto the trellis.

The tomato plants have TONS of new blossoms....can't wait for tomoatos!

The green beans are going crazy. They climb at least an inch per day...so fun to watch!!!!

The peas are a little behind the greenbeans, but about ready to grab onto the trellis. I do have one flower on one of the pea plants.

10/10/09 update

Another week and the plants have nearly all doubled in size. The lettuce is looking yummy already.

There are new flowers on the tomato plants.

My green bell peppers are still, not so green.....hmmmm.

There are actually spots that appear purple on two of the peppers.

The summer squash is growing well....I'm just not sure if it will continue since it's going into cooler weather, but I figured I'd give it a try anyway.

I'm finding some pests on my tomatos....I'm not sure what they are, but think they may be aphids. I sprayed the plants down with mild dish soapy water.

The beans and peas continue to do well. I had few seeds that didn't germinate, so I replanted. These have sprouted and will now give me a full 9 plants in each box. The broccoli, cauliflower and brussel sprouts seem to be coming along too.

The boys were very excited to find one red cherry tomato. I let them pick it and they shared it....it was only about 3/4" around, but they savored it. :)

This one has been the same color for a while and seemed to be getting pretty big for a patio tomato so I went ahead and picked it.....we'll see if it will ripen in the house.
Our first "harvest."
Ohhhh, the possibilities.

10/02/09 update

The 4x4 box is coming along. All of the plants have sprouted and the tomatoes and bell pellers are doing well (minus the bell peppers still being yellow).

Hubby built me supports for the trellis netting (photo above) for the climbing plants, and garden netting (photos below) to keep the rabbits out.
The 5x2 box is doing well too. The tomatoes have really taken off. The green beans look great and the peas all have the climbers starting. I should be able to start training them to climb the trelllis netting in the next two weeks.
This is a close up of the Sugar Snap Peas, but it is hard to see the climbers.
The parsnips have finally sprouted too.
